This out-of-print book by Luigina De Grandis is an excellent tool for anyone looking to advance their knowledge of color theory or learn some design tips and tricks. Theory & Use of Color provides its readers a look into the various aspects of color in a concrete way, in order to help them gain the knowledge they need to explore the medium of color in all its forms.

The book’s original cover was designed in the 80s, and it needed to be able to stand on its own in the 21st century with a refreshed look and feel. Because the book itself deals with color, we knew its cover should be exciting, colorful, eye-catching and separate from other color theory books. We often judge a book by its exterior, so the information within the book needed to be reflected on its surface.

IMPACT

Our final book design employs a simple, yet a distinctive splash of colors in the style reminiscent of a paintbrush — a simple nod to the book’s contents. Using sleek black text for the book’s title and author’s name draws the eye without becoming busy or distracting, keeping the viewer’s attention on the book’s overall focus. Above all, our modern twist on this classic old book cover successfully brings its ever-relevant advice into a form that would draw in today’s consumers.
